2. THE STORY OF OUR JACKETS +

Pilot Jacket - Type B-10 - ARMY AIR FORCE SOUVENIR. Souvenir jacket inspired by the B-10s of the US Army Air Forces. During World War II, American aviators quickly transformed their regulation jackets into truly personal pieces. The B-10 models, introduced in 1943, provided an ideal canvas to express the identity, experiences, and combat memories of their owners. From 1944 until the end of the conflict in 1945, many jackets were hand-painted at air bases, whether in England, Italy, the Pacific, or upon their return to the United States. These paintings, often executed by military artists or local artisans, depicted emblems, symbols, mascots, or motifs inspired by the personal imagination of the aircrews. These jackets were not standardized official pieces, but unique creations, made to commemorate a period, an assignment, or simply to preserve a powerful memory of the war. Each motif told a story, becoming a silent testament to a generation of aviators. This jacket follows in the tradition of "souvenir jackets," capturing the spirit and aesthetic of these personalized pieces from the end of the war, when men transformed their standard-issue gear into personal objects, imbued with memory and meaning. The B-10 Jacket – The first fabric flight jacket of the US Army Air Force. Introduced in 1943, the B-10 jacket marked a significant milestone in the history of American aviation gear. It was, in fact, the first fabric flight jacket adopted by the US Army Air Force, breaking with the tradition of sheepskin jackets that had dominated until then—notably the famous B-3 and ANJ-4. These earlier models, while very warm, were heavy, stiff, and impractical, especially in the cramped cockpits of increasingly modern fighter aircraft. The B-10 introduced a new philosophy: offering equivalent thermal protection while significantly reducing bulk and improving mobility. Featuring a durable cotton twill outer and an alpaca and sheep's wool lining, the B-10 combined warmth, lightness, and flexibility. Its sheepskin collar, knit cuffs and hem, and tailored fit made it a jacket that was as functional as it was comfortable—particularly suited to the needs of bomber and fighter pilots of the era. It was quickly appreciated for its technical qualities and served as the basis for the development of later models like the B-15, which further refined the concept. The B-10 is much more than a flight jacket: it symbolizes the transition to more modern, ergonomic gear better suited to the evolution of aerial combat. Today, it remains a must-have for enthusiasts of military history and vintage aviation clothing.
