It was, in fact, the first fabric flight jacket adopted by the US Army Air Force, breaking with the tradition of sheepskin jackets that had dominated until then – notably the famous B-3 and ANJ-4. These earlier models, while very warm, were heavy, stiff, and impractical, especially in the cramped cockpits of increasingly modern fighter aircraft. The B-10 introduced a new philosophy: to offer equivalent thermal protection while significantly reducing bulk and improving mobility. Featuring a durable cotton twill outer and an alpaca and sheep's wool lining, the B-10 combines warmth, lightness, and flexibility. Its sheepskin collar, knit cuffs and hem, and tailored fit make it a jacket that is as functional as it is comfortable—particularly suited to the needs of bomber and fighter pilots of the era. It was quickly appreciated for its technical qualities and served as the basis for the development of later models like the B-15, which further refined the concept.
